1. Myanmar military seizes power, declares state of emergency for one year

  • Myanmar's military seized power on Monday (Feb 1) in a coup against the democratically elected government of Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, who was detained along with other leaders of her National League for Democracy (NLD) party 
  • The army said it had carried out the detentions in response to "election fraud", handing power to military chief Min Aung Hlaing and imposing a state of emergency for one year

2. In a first, Tata to build military aircraft in India as it acquires IP rights

  • The Tata Group will develop and manufacture a military aircraft in India, having acquired intellectual property rights for a German-origin platform.The plan, ET has reliably learnt, is to integrate indigenous sensors and payloads to convert it into an intelligence gathering asset.
  • The high-altitude, twin-engine aircraft, capable of playing multiple roles from signal intelligence to cross-border surveillance, is currently in the final stages of testing in Germany. It is likely to arrive in India in the next three months for further integration

3. ‘Mo Jungle’ & ‘Know Your Forest Land’ Mobile Apps Launched For Transparency

  • Two mobile applications known as – Mo Jungle and Know Your Forest Land were launched as a part of the 5T Initiative of Odisha Government and aim at enhancing transparency in governance. The mobile applications were launched by Bikram Keshari Arukh, Forest and Environment Department Minister

4. Smriti Irani inaugurates 8th India International Silk Fair

  • The fair is considered to be India’s biggest silk fair, being held under one roof on Indian Silk Export Promotion Council’s virtual platform. The five days event is being held virtually due to COVID-19 pandemic.
  • More than 200 overseas buyers have already registered and equal number of their representatives in India will be interacting with more than 100 renowned and big Indian companies manufacturing and trading silk and silk blended products
  • exhibitors and overseas buyers to take part in this initiative to celebrate the beauty and vibrancy of Indian silk.
  • India has  long history of silk production and is the 2nd largest producer of Silk. India is the only country in the world which produces all the four major varieties of silk - Mulberry, Eri, Tassar, and Muga
