INS Talwar is participating in Exercise "Cutlass Express" 2021 being conducted off the east coast of Africa.

  • The exercise is an annual maritime exercise conducted to promote national and regional maritime security in East Africa and the western Indian Ocean.
  • The Indian Navy is participating in the exercise Role of Trainer.
  • The 2021 edition of the exercise involves the participation of:
    • 12 East African Countries, US, UK, India
    • Various international organizations such as International Maritime Organization (IMO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Interpol, European Union Naval Forces (UNAVFOR), Critical Maritime Routes Indian Ocean (CRIMARIO), and EUCAP Somalia.



Kandla Special Economic Zone became the "1st green industrial city" in India.

  • The Kandla Special Economic Zone (KASEZ), the country's oldest export zone, has become the "first green industrial city" in India
  • To receive a platinum rating under the IGBC Green Cities Rating for existing cities in the Industrial Cities category.
  • This has been made possible not only because of the increase in green cover in KASEZ,
  • but has managed to grow 68 species of trees and attract 28 varieties of birds – which were also audited and counted – on a piece of land. Which was once with a pan of salt. Almost no vegetation.
  • Compared to 25,000 trees in KASEZ in 2019, there are 3.5 lakh trees in 1000 acres.
  • Most of these trees have been planted after 2019 using the Miyawaki afforestation method.



Google's parent Alphabet launched a new robotics software firm "Intrinsic".

  • It develops software tools designed to make industrial robots, that are used to make products ranging from solar panels to cars, easier to use, less costly and more flexible.
  • Intrinsic is working to unlock the creative and economic potential of industrial robotics for millions more businesses, entrepreneurs and developers.



ISRO will launch a satellite for natural disaster monitoring this year.

  • The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) plans to launch a satellite that will be used to monitor natural disasters.
  • This satellite will be a geo-imaging satellite, EOS-3, which will be capable of real-time monitoring of various natural calamities like cyclones, floods etc.
  • It will be launched sometime in the year 2021-22.
  • Not only natural calamities but this satellite will also be capable of imaging the country at least 4 to 5 times a day
  • And will also be able to monitor the condition of crops, water bodies, changes in forest cover and vegetation.



Parliament passed the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Bill 2021.

  • The bill seeks to amend the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
  • The Bill seeks to enhance the role of Additional District Magistrates and District Magistrates in respect of matters relating to adoption and child care.
  • The Act states that the adoption of a child becomes final only when the adoption order is issued by a civil court.
  • The Bill will amend the rule and instead of a court, the additional district magistrate as well as the district magistrate will issue adoption orders.
