Benjamin List and David WC Macmillan wins the 2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
- The Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the year 2021 has been jointly awarded to Benjamin List (Germany) and David Macmillan (USA) for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis.
- Both are honored for their work in developing a new method for manufacturing molecules called asymmetric organocatalysis.
- The award comes with a gold medal and prize money of 10 million Swedish kronor (over $1.14 million).
Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurates Brahmaputra River Heritage Center in Guwahati.
- The new heritage site is built by renovating and converting a British-era bungalow atop Barphuknar Tila (Barphukan Hill) in Panbazar, which served as the Deputy Commissioner's residence till 2011.

Prof Eric Hanushek and Dr. Rukmini Banerji awarded the Yidan Prize 2021.
- US-based Stanford University’s Professor Eric A. Hanushek and Mumbai-based Dr Rukmini Banerji have been felicitated with the 2021 Yidan Prize, the world’s highest education accolade.
- The prestigious award is given by the Yidan Prize Foundation, Hong Kong.
- The two awardees have been recognized for their groundbreaking work addressing the issue of education related to improving the quality of education and outcomes for learners at large.
SBI launches NAV-eCash card in collaboration with Indian navy.
- State Bank of India (SBI) has partnered with the Indian Navy to launch the NAV-eCash card for naval personnel aboard the country's largest naval aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya.
- The new digital payment solution will address the difficulties faced by personnel in handling physical cash during ship deployment in the high seas.
- The card will facilitate both online and offline transactions, even when the ship is in high seas with no connectivity.
- The NAV-eCash card will remove the dependence on cash for any service usage and create a secure, convenient and sustainable payment ecosystem.
Alibaug white onion gets GI tag for its health benefits.
- Alibaug's white onion has medicinal qualities and is used in the treatment of heart ailments, controlling cholesterol and creation of insulin.
- It is sweet in taste and rich in protein, fat and fibre. It boosts immunity in the body.
- It has low pungency and has no tear factor. The onion was also mentioned in a government gazette published in 1883.
