Indian Railways Constructing World’s Tallest Pier Bridge in Manipur.

  • The bridge is being constructed over the Izai River near Noni, and it will be the tallest pier with a height of 141 metres.
  • Currently, the record for the tallest pier bridge in Europe is held by the 139-metre-high Mala-Rijeka Viaduct built in Montenegro.
  • The railways' ambitious project in Manipur is part of the Jiribam-Imphal railway line, a new broad gauge line eventually being built to connect the northeastern state with the rest of the country.
  • Security forces have been deployed at the spot, where a total bridge of 703 meters is being constructed.
  • Once completed, the project will enable commuters to cover a distance of 111 km in 2-2.5 hours.



South Korea to get world’s 1st floating city by 2025.

  • A UN-backed project has been proposed in South Korea to develop a floating city off Busan to the sea to pioneer a new mode of living amid climate-related sea level rise.
  • The Floating City Project is a joint effort of the UN Human Settlement Program (UN-Habit) and Oceanics.
  • The city will be built on the coast of Busan in South Korea and is expected to be completed by 2025.
  • The floating city will have flood-proof infrastructure and will include several man-made islands to eliminate the risk of flooding.
  • Although the size of the first iteration of the city has not been determined, the cost is expected to be in the region of $200 million.
  • The self-sustaining city will be specially designed to withstand natural calamities like tsunamis, floods and Category 5 hurricanes.



7th India International Science Festival 2021 will be held in Goa.

  • The 7th edition of the four-day India International Science Festival (IISF) is scheduled to be held in Panaji, Goa from December 10 to 13, 2021.
  • The theme of the festival in 2021 is Celebrating Creativity in Science, Technology and Innovation for a Prosperous India.
  • The first IISF was held in 2015 in New Delhi.
  • The National Center for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Goa-based under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, is the nodal agency to conduct IISF 2021.
  • The festival will be organized jointly with the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Science and Technology (DST), Biotechnology (DBT), and Space (DoS) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).



Harshwanti Bisht has been appointed as the 1st woman chairperson of the Mountaineering Foundation of India.

  • Harshwanti Bisht, a famous mountaineer from Uttarakhand has the distinction of being elected the first woman president of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF).
  • 62-year-old Bisht secured 60 votes out of a total of 107 votes to be elected to the coveted post on November 20.
  • In 1981, Bisht climbed the Nanda Devi peak, for which he was awarded the Arjuna Award.
  • IMF was established in the year 1958.
  • It is an apex national body to organize and support mountaineering and rock climbing expeditions at high altitudes in the Himalayas.



Merriam-Webster Dictionary declared "vaccine" the word of the year for 2021.

  • American publishing company Merriam-Webster has chosen the word vaccine as its 2021 Word of the Year.
  • Merriam-Webster is America's most trusted online dictionary for English word definitions, meanings and pronunciations.
  • It has been proclaiming the Word of the Year since 2008.
