President Ram Nath Kovind presents the Padma Awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

  • Those present included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
  • The Padma Award is one of India's highest civilian honors, declared annually on the eve of Republic Day.
  • Awards are given in 3 categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri (distinguished service).
  • 119 Padma Awards will be presented by the President this year.
  • The list includes 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri awards.
  • Among the awardees are 29 women, 16 posthumous award winners and 1 transgender awardee.



The Justice Department launches the "Tele-Law on Wheels" campaign.

  • This campaign will run from November 8 to November 14, 2021.
  • Under the campaign, a number of activities are being undertaken to empower the people to claim their rights properly and through pre-litigation advice for timely redressal of their difficulties.
  • This one week is dedicated to ensure Justice for All by Digital Legal Empowerment for the needy people.
  • As a part of the campaign, special login weeks are being organized across India to encourage people in need of legal advice and counseling by using tele and video conferencing facilities.
  • They are being urged to visit their nearest Common Service Centers (CSCs) which are providing tele-law services.



Australia is putting a rover on the Moon in 2024 to search for water.

  • Joshua Chow, Senior Lecturer, University of Technology Sydney, Nov 6 (Conversation) Last month, the Australian Space Agency announced plans to send an Australian-made rover to the Moon in early 2026 as part of an agreement with NASA.
  • The rover will harvest oxygen in the Moon's soil, which can eventually be used to support human life in space.
  • It will be the first rover with Australian-made components to reach the Moon.
  • The ten-kilogram rover, measuring 60x60x50cm, will be launched aboard the Hakuto lander built by ispace, a Japanese-based robotic lunar exploration company.



Srinagar joins UNESCO Creative Cities Network 2021 under Crafts, Folk Art category.

  • UNESCO has included Srinagar city of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in its coveted list of Creative Cities Network (UCCN).
  • The UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) is a project of UNESCO launched in 2004 to promote cooperation among cities which recognized creativity as a major factor in their urban development.
  • As of 2017, there are 180 cities from 72 countries in the network.
  • The network aims to foster mutual international cooperation with and between member cities committed to invest in creativity as a driver for sustainable urban development, social inclusion and cultural vibrancy.
  • The Network recognizes the following creative fields.



ESAF Bank joins hands with NABARD for local economic development.

  • Esaf Small Finance Bank has joined hands with NABARD for local economic development.
  • State Revenue Minister K. Rajan inaugurated the state level local sustainable economic development training program organized by the bank in this regard.
  • ESAF Small Finance Bank's statewide initiative on Local Sustainable Economic Development Training Program in collaboration with NABARD is a step towards building financial literacy at the grassroots level.
