ADB approves $1.5 billion loan to India to buy COVID-19 vaccines.
- The Asian Development Bank has approved a USD 1.5 billion (approximately Rs 11,185 crore) loan to India for COVID-19 vaccine purchase.
- It said ADB's loan would provide at least 667 million COVID-19 vaccine doses for an estimated 317 million people.
- It will support India's National Deployment and Immunization Plan which aims to fully vaccinate 94.47 crore people aged 18 years and above.
- An additional $500 million is expected to be co-financed for the project from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
Bihar, Jharkhand, UP emerged as India's poorest states: NITI Aayog.
- According to NITI Aayog's 1st Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report, Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh have emerged as the poorest states in India.
- According to the index, Bihar's 51.91 percent population is poor, followed by Jharkhand with 42.16 percent, Uttar Pradesh at 37.79 percent.
- While Madhya Pradesh (36.65 per cent) is at the fourth position in the index, Meghalaya (32.67 per cent) is at the fifth position.
- Bihar, Jharkhand and UP have emerged as the poorest states in India according to the MPI.
- Bihar has the highest number of malnourished people, followed by Jharkhand, MP, UP and Chhattisgarh.
- Kerala, Goa, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Punjab have recorded the lowest poverty rates across India.
- The MPI measure uses a methodology developed by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative and UNDP.
GHCL signs MoU worth ₹500 crore with Tamil Nadu.
- GHCL Limited, a chemical and textile company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu for an investment of ₹500 crore in the state.
- As per the MoU, GHCL will install 40,000 ring spindles at Manaparai, Tiruchirappalli district for the production of synthetic and synthetic blended yarns.
- GHCL also plans to develop an EHT (Extra High Tension) power transmission facility at Manaparai to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
- GHCL has proposed to set up a 20 MW solar power park near Musiri in Tiruchirappalli district.
Indian candidate Praveen Sinha elected to INTERPOL's Apex Committee.
- Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Director Praveen Sinha has been elected as the Representative for Asia in the Executive Committee of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
- Sinha was elected to the elite panel during the 89th Interpol General Assembly on November 25, 2021 in Istanbul, Turkey.
- Meanwhile, Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been elected as the new President of Interpol (Headquarters: Lyon, France).

- Bajaj Allianz General Insurance has partnered with deep-tech start-up Tropogo to distribute its new drone insurance cover.
- The drone insurance product will cover damage to the drone and the payload it carries.
- Drone owners and drone manufacturing companies can take advantage of annual third-party and comprehensive coverage for accidental damage, theft and disappearances.
- Companies can also avail insurance coverage customized to the needs of the fleet.
