Kazhuveli Wetland declared as 16th Bird Sanctuary of Tamil Nadu.

  • The Government of Tamil Nadu has notified Kazuveli swamp/wetlands in Vanur and Marakkanam taluks of Villupuram district as Kazuveli Wetland Bird Sanctuary – the 16th bird sanctuary in the state.
  • The declaration was made under sub-section (1) of section 18 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
  • The Kazuveli wetland is known to be the second largest brackish water lake in South India only after Pulicat Lake.
  • The sanctuary lies adjacent to the Bay of Bengal along the East coast of Tamil Nadu.
  • Kazhuveli is a wetland of international importance that is spread over 670 square km in the east coast of Tamil Nadu.



NITI Aayog launches "E-Sawaari India E-Bus Alliance".

  • The National Institution of Transforming India (NITI) Aayog launched the e-Sawaari India Electric Bus Coalition in partnership with Convergence Energy Service Ltd (CESL) and World Resources Institute, India (WRI India) and with the support from Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI).
  • The objective of the initiative is to share the knowledge of various stakeholders - Central and State Govt. Agencies, transit service providers, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), on expediting the process of seamless adoption of e-bus services in India.



Microsoft launches Cyber Security Skills Program in India.

  • Program aims to skill over one lakh learners by 2022 as part of efforts to address the skills gap and empower India’s workforce for a career in digital security.
  • The program is designed to provide learners with practical experience in the fundamentals of security, compliance and identity.
  • Microsoft will conduct these courses in conjunction with its strategic consortium of partners, including Cloudthat, Koenig, RPS and Synergetics Learning.



FM Nirmala Sitharaman ranked 37th in Forbes' 2021 World's 100 Most Powerful Women.

  • The Finance Minister (FM) of India, Nirmala Sitharaman has ranked 37th in Forbes' list of the world's 100 most powerful women in 2021 or the 18th edition of Forbes' list of the world's 100 most powerful women.
  • She has been included in the list for the third consecutive year.
  • She was ranked 41st on the list in 2020 and 34th in 2019.
  • India's 7th female billionaire and richest self-made billionaire, Falguni Nair, Founder and CEO, Nykaa was ranked 88th on the list.
  • Only 4 Indian women have been ranked in the Forbes 2021 list of the world's 100 most powerful women.



India replaces Brazil as the top food supplier to Arab League countries.

  • India has replaced Brazil for the 1st time in 15 years to become the top food exporter of the 22-nation League of Arab States.
  • A Reuters report from Sao Paulo said India accounted for 8.25% of the total agribusiness products imported by the 22 Arab League members last year, higher than Brazil’s 8.15%, ending a 15-year advantage for Brazil.
  • Now, India is able to send fruits, vegetables, sugar, grains and meat to Arab countries in about a week's time.
