The accounts of PM Jan Dhan Yojana have crossed the figure of 44 crores.
- The total number of beneficiaries under the Centre's financial inclusion scheme, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has crossed the 44 crore mark.
- The total number of accounts opened under PMJDY was 44.05 crore, with the total balance as on December 8 at Rs 1,47,812 crore.
- Uttar Pradesh tops the list with the highest number of accounts, followed by Bihar.
- Since its launch in 2014, the scheme has been continuously expanding its base.
CM of Punjab gave the tag of "State Festival" to Jagannath Rath Yatra.
- The Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi has declared Lord Krishna Balram Jagannath Rath Yatra as an annual state festival.
- This was announced during the flagging off of the 25th Shri Bhagwan Krishna Balaram Jagannath Rath Yatra.
- He also announced a grant of Rs 2.51 crore for the ISKCON temple in Ludhiana, Punjab.
- Notably, he also said that the Punjab government is developing Shri Bhagavad Gita and Ramayana Research Center on 20 acres of land in Patiala.
- This is not the first time that the Rath Yatra of Ludhiana has laid the foundation of elections.
- Ahead of the 2017 Punjab elections, AAP's Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia participated in the yatra.
- He also performed Maha Aarti from the stage with party candidates.
Nagaland created 3 new districts Niuland, Tseminyu, Chumukedima.
- The Nagaland government has announced the creation of three new districts namely Seminyu, Niuland and Chumoukedima.
- This comes less than a year after the state's 12th district - Noklak - was inaugurated.
- Now there are 15 districts in the northeastern state of Nagaland which the state cabinet has announced on Saturday 18 December.
- While Tseminyu sub-division in Kohima district has been upgraded to a district, Niuland and Chumukedima have been carved out of Dimapur district.
- Earlier the state had 12 districts namely Kohima, Dimapur, Mon, Kifir, Noklak, Tuensang Wokha, Phek, Zunheboto, Mokochung and Longleng.
- Although there was a demand for at least 11 tribes for the creation of new districts, the cabinet could consider only three of them as some districts are inhabited by only one tribe and cannot be divided.
Indian Navy's 2nd indigenous stealth destroyer "Mormugao" has sailed.
- On Goa Liberation Day, Indian Navy's indigenous stealth guided-missile destroyer Mormugao went for its first sea trials.
- This second indigenous stealth destroyer of the Project 15B (P15B) class, is planned to be commissioned in mid-2022.
- The Mormugao Project is being built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited as part of the 15B destroyer and includes several indigenous technologies.
PV Sindhu is among the 6 appointed members of the BWF Athletes Commission till 2025.
- Former world champion PV Sindhu has been appointed as a member of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Athletes' Commission along with five others.
- The Chairman and the Vice-Chairman will be decided from among the six members.
- The chairman of the BWF Athletes Commission will become a member of the council until the next election in 2025, following the necessary revision process for all council members.
- Iris Wang (USA), Robin Tabeling (NED), Greysia Polii (INA), Kim Soyeong (KOR), Pusarla V Sindhu (IND) and Zheng Si Wei (CHN) are the ones appointed as members of the BWF Athletes’ Commission.
