OP Jindal Global University won the "Digital Innovation of the Year" award.

  • OP Jindal Global University (JGU) has won the Digital Innovation of the Year Award at the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Awards 2021.
  • It has been won for creating a free, cloud-based application to help schools and universities manage data.
  • JGU was the only Indian university selected for Digital Innovation of the Year.
  • The university was awarded under the category Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year for its transformational work in the last 2 years.
  • The award is also a reflection of JGU's commitment to ensure continuing education for its students during the ongoing pandemic.

IAF deployed the first S-400 air defense system in Punjab.

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed the first squadron of the S-400 air defense missile system in the West Punjab sector to take care of aerial threats from Pakistan and China.
  • The S-400 air defense system was contracted by India from Russia in a deal worth around Rs 35,000 crore and five squadrons will be provided to India to deal with air threats up to 400 km.
  • The surface-to-air missile system will give India an edge in the South Asian skies as they will be able to take out enemy aircraft and cruise missiles from a range of 400 km.
  • The S-400 Triumf air defense system is equipped with four different missiles that can hit enemy aircraft, ballistic missiles and AWACS aircraft at 400 km, 250 km, medium range 120 km and short range 40 km.



Wipro to acquire Edgile in USD 230-million deal.

  • Wipro has signed an agreement to acquire transformational cyber security consulting provider Edgil for $230 million.
  • Founded in 2001, Edgil is recognized by security and risk leaders for its business-aligned cybersecurity capability, deep understanding of the changing regulatory environment, and enabling cloud transformations that help secure the modern enterprise.
  • It has an onsite workforce of 182 employees.
  • Together, Wipro and Edgil will develop Wipro CyberTransform, an integrated suite that will help enterprises enhance boardroom governance of cybersecurity risk, invest in robust cyber strategies, and leverage the value of practical security into action.



INS Khukri decommissioned after 32 years of service.

  • India's 1st indigenously built missile corvette, INS Khukri (P49) was decommissioned after 32 years of service at Visakhapatnam on December 24, 2021.
  • INS Khukri was commissioned by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders on 23 August 1989.
  • It had the distinction of being part of the Western and Eastern Fleets.
  • In her service in the Indian Navy, the ship was commanded by 28 commanding officers.
  • It covered a distance of more than 6,44,897 nautical miles, which is equivalent to navigating 30 times or three times the distance between the Moon and Earth across the globe.
  • The ship was affiliated to the Gurkha Brigade of the Indian Army.



Mastercard and Google Pay tie-up for tokenisation for card-based payments.

  • Mastercard and Google announced a tokenization method that enables Google Pay users to securely transact using their Mastercard credit cards and debit cards.
  • With this collaboration, Google Pay Android users can scan and pay at all Bharat QR-enabled merchants, tap-and-pay, and conduct in-app transactions through their MasterCard debit and credit cards.
  • For convenient registration, users need to do a one-time setup by entering their card details and OTP to add their card on Google Pay app.
  • Mastercard said the initiative is an extension of Mastercard's long-standing collaboration with Google and will go a long way towards enabling India's digital economy.
