Anupam Ray will be the new Ambassador of India to the United Nations Conference on Disarmament.

  • The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that senior diplomat Anupam Ray has been appointed as the next Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.
  • Ray, a 1994-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, is currently working as Joint Secretary at the Headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi.
  • Ray will replace Pankaj Sharma.
  • Sharma, a 1991 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Mexico.



Jawaharlal Nehru Road renamed as "Narendra Modi Marg".

  • Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad has named the new road as Narendra Modi Marg.
  • The governor saw the road below Kabi Lungchok, 4 miles from Kyongsala.
  • It is an alternative to Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg.
  • The National Memorial on National Highway 310 was built by the Border Roads Organisation.
  • It will be easy for Indian tourists to reach Nathula border.
  • The proposal to change the name of the road after it was unanimously passed by the Prime Minister in the Gram Sabha on December 20, said IK Raseli, the panchayat head of 51 Kyongsala GPU.
  • This section, constructed by the Border Roads Organisation, has reduced the distance between Gangtok and Tsomgo Lake by 15 km.



SBI will acquire 9.95% stake in GIFT-IFSC-based Clearing Corp.

  • State Bank of India will acquire 9.95% stake in India International Clearing Corporation (IFSC) Limited subject to a maximum investment of Rs 34.03 crore.
  • The Clearing Corporation acts as the central counterparty to India International Exchange (IFSC) Limited providing clearing and settlement and risk management services.
  • Clearing Corporation is a GIFT City (Gandhinagar, Gujarat) based Market Infrastructure Institution (MII).
  • The Corporation is the first international clearing corporation to be set up at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) International Financial Services Center (IFSC).
  • The Clearing Corporation acts as the central counterparty to India International Exchange (IFSC) Limited providing clearing and settlement and risk management services.



Karnataka govt partnered with NPCI & SBI to implement "e-RUPI".

  • The Government of Karnataka has partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), State Bank of India (SBI) and the Department of e-Governance to enable and implement e-RUPI.
  • E-RUPI is a cashless and contactless payment solution provided by NPCI and will be used to ensure leak-proof delivery transactions.
  • Major areas include quantum computing, quantum key distribution, quantum communication and post-quantum cryptography.



IndusInd Bank launched "Green Fixed Deposit".

  • The deposits will be used to finance projects and firms supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • IndusInd Bank is one of the few banks globally to take forward this proposal, thereby integrating SDGs into a regular fixed deposit product.
  • These deposits will be given to both retail and corporate customers.
