Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui posthumously wins the RedInk Journalist of the Year 2020 award.
- Photojournalist Danish Siddiqui, who died during an assignment in Afghanistan, has been posthumously awarded the Journalist of the Year for 2020 by the Mumbai Press Club.
- Chief Justice of India NV Ramana presented the annual RedInk Awards for Excellence in Journalism instituted by Mumbai Press Club in a virtual event.
- The award was received by his wife Frederick Siddiqui.
- The National RedInk Award for Excellence in Journalism has been instituted by the Mumbai Press Club to encourage good quality reporting and analysis, fair play and high ethical standards in Indian journalism.
- The awards are presented in 12 categories to journalists working in print, television and digital media.
- It carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, a trophy and a citation.
PM Modi to lay foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University.
- PM Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut.
- The university will be set up in Salwa and Kali villages of Sardhana town of Meerut at an estimated cost of about Rs 700 crore.
- The university will have a training capacity of 1080 players including 540 female and 540 male players.
The first electric boat built for the Kochi Water Metro Project.
- In Kerala, the first battery-operated electric boat built for the Kochi Water Metro project was handed over to the Kochi Metro Rail Limited.
- The fully air-conditioned boat is one of the 23 boats being built by Cochin Shipyard for the Rs 747 crore Kochi Water Metro project.
- The Kochi Water Metro system will have 78 ghats, connecting 38 terminals spread over 76 route kilometres.
- The battery-operated water subway boat can carry up to 100 passengers.
- KMRL said it is the first in the world to have a centrally controlled integrated water transport system in which a large fleet is powered by batteries.
Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 46th GST Council meeting in Delhi.
- The 46th meeting of the GST Council was held in New Delhi under the chairmanship of the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman.
- The GST Council has recommended deferment of the decision to change the rates of textiles recommended in the 45th GST Council meeting.
- Consequently, the existing GST rates of 5% instead of 12% in the textiles sector will continue.
Vinay Kumar Tripathi was named as the Chairman and CEO of Railway Board.
- Vinay Kumar Tripathi of the 1983 batch of the Indian Railway Service has been appointed as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board.
- He is presently working as the General Manager, North Eastern Railway in the post of Chairman, Railway Board.
- The Indian Railway Board is the apex body of the Indian Railways, which reports to the Parliament through the Ministry of Railways.
- The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has not only approved Tripathi's appointment for six months from January 1, but has also extended his tenure in 2022 till December 31.
