United Nations World Food Program tied up with Akshaya Patra Foundation for PM-POSHAN scheme.
- The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in India has partnered with the Akshaya Patra Foundation to enhance the effectiveness of the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM-POSHAN) scheme.
- PM-POSHAN scheme was earlier known as mid-day meal scheme.
- The agreement in this regard was signed between Bisho Parjuli, Country Director, WFP India, and Chanchalpati Dasa, Vice President, Akshaya Patra Foundation, in New Delhi on January 03, 2022.
- PM Poshan Yojana was launched on September 29, 2021 as a new meal scheme for government and government aided schools for 5 years (from 2021-22 to 2025-26).
- The existing Mid Day Meal scheme has been included in this programme.
- WFP and Akshaya Patra will constitute a Steering Committee with representatives from both the organisations, to discuss various aspects of the tie-up.
- Finance for implementing the programs will be provided by both the organisations.
- Bengaluru-based Akshaya Patra Foundation is a non-profit organization that runs school lunch programs.
PM Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the 2nd campus of Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute in Kolkata.
- PM Modi inaugurated the 2nd campus of Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) in Kolkata on January 07, 2022 in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
- The new campus has been built at an estimated cost of over Rs 530 crore.
- Out of this, Rs 400 crore has been provided by the Central Government and the rest by the Government of West Bengal in the ratio of 75:25.
- CNCI's second 460-bed campus has been built under the Union Health Ministry in line with the vision of the Prime Minister to expand and upgrade health facilities in all parts of the country.
- CNCI is named after Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das and was established in 1950.
- It is a major center for cancer treatment and research in the eastern region of India.
- CNCI is an autonomous body under the Centre, and so far is the only government-run cancer hospital in Bengal.
Cabinet approved MoU with Nepal for construction of bridge over Mahakali river at Dharchula, Uttarakhand.
- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a MoU between India and Nepal for the construction of a bridge over the Mahakali river at Dharchula, Uttarakhand.
- This bridge will connect the twin city of Dharchula in Uttarakhand with Dharchula in Nepal.
- The construction of the bridge will be completed within 3 years.
- This will strengthen ties and improve diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Uttar Pradesh has received the Best State Award in the 3rd National Water Awards 2020.
- UP added another feather to its cap on January 07, 2022, securing the 1st position in the Best State Category in the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti's National Water Awards 2020.
- This is the third edition of the award given for adopting a holistic approach towards water resource management in India.
- It is followed by Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu respectively.
- 57 awards were announced in 11 categories, including Best State, District, Panchayat and Best Industry.
ICMR has approved the first India made kit "OmiSure" for omicron detection.
- The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved a test kit to detect the omicron type of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
- The Covid kit developed by Tata is called OmiSure and will be an enhancement to the detection of Omicron variants.
- The kit is manufactured by Tata Medical & Diagnostics.
- Tests have been performed according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Batch-to-batch compatibility is the responsibility of the manufacturer.
