Center launched "SMILE" scheme for the welfare of transgender community and beggars.

  • The Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar launched the Central Sector scheme titled SMILE on February 12, 2022.
  • SMILE stands for Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise.
  • The objective of the new umbrella scheme is to provide welfare measures to the transgender community and those engaged in the act of begging.
  • The scheme will give the required legal protection, social security and promise of a secure life to the target group.
  • The Ministry has allocated Rs. 365 crore for the scheme for five years from 2021-22 to 2025-26.



India to help Sri Lanka launch its version of Aadhaar Card.

  • India has agreed to provide a grant to Sri Lanka to implement a unitary digital identity framework, apparently based on the Aadhaar card.
  • The Rajapaksa government will prioritize the implementation of the framework as a national-level programme.
  • The initiative comes after bilateral talks between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2019.



Telangana govt tie-up with British Council to expand higher education.

  • The Government of Telangana and the British Council have signed a 3-year MoU to renew partnerships in education, English and the arts.
  • British Council is an international organization for educational opportunities and cultural exchange.
  • Facilitate research among institutions and help expand higher education globally to provide global opportunities for Telangana's youth.



India Pavilion inaugurated at 72nd Berlinale European Film Market 2022.

  • The India Pavilion was inaugurated at the 72nd Berlinale European Film Market 2022.
  • It was organized on the sidelines of the Berlin International Film Festival.
  • The inaugural session, organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the National Film Development Corporation and the Confederation of Indian Industry, saw the unveiling of the Virtual India Pavilion, showcasing the 75 years of India's independence - the Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi.
  • The India Pavilion offers a glimpse of India's cinemas and the beautiful locations that prompt filmmakers to visit India.
  • It will be live till February 17.



Subhas Sarkar presented 5th National Award for Educational Administration.

  • Dr Subhash Sarkar, Minister of State for Education, presented the 5th National Award for Innovations and Good Practices in Educational Administration.
  • National Awards or Certificates of Appreciation were presented to selected district and block level education officers from 29 states and union territories of the country.
  • The fifth award presentation ceremony was organized virtually by NIEPA.
  • It was received by over a hundred officers.
  • The National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration has instituted this National Award.
