RBI board approves Rajiv Ranjan as MPC member after Mridul Saggar retires.
- The Reserve Bank of India’s central board approved the nomination of Rajiv Ranjan as a member of the monetary policy committee.
- Ranjan replaces Mridul Saggar, who retired last month.
- Ranjan was an advisor in-charge in the monetary policy department, before he was elevated as an executive director.
- Ranjan has a master’s degree from Delhi School of Economics and a PhD from Mumbai University.
- Ranjan will be a part of the monetary policy review meeting next month, scheduled between 6-8 June.
Indian students from Punjab and Tamil Nadu win NASA 2022 Human Exploration Rover Challenge.
- Two Indian student groups from Punjab and Tamil Nadu have won the NASA 2022 Human Exploration Rover Challenge.
- The challenge involved as many as 91 teams, including 58 colleges and 33 high schools.
- The challenge required US and international student teams to design, engineer, and test a human-powered rover on a course simulating terrain found on rocky bodies in the solar system.
- The annual NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge has been going on for over 25 years.
Former NITI Aayog officer Archana Gulati selected by Google as India Policy Head.
- Internet major Google has appointed former joint secretary at Niti Aayog Archana Gulati as head of public policy in India.
- Gulati was looking after digital communications policy matters at the government think tank and took voluntary retirement in April last year.
- She was an officer on special duty in the telecom secretary office from May 2017 to August 2019.
Tokyo Olympian discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur provisionally suspended.
- Olympian discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur has been provisionally suspended by Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for testing positive for a banned substance.
- Kamalpreet, who was tested on March 29, was suspended for the presence/use of the prohibited substance stanozolol in her sample.
- This is a violation of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules.
- Kaur had made it to the Tokyo Olympics final, finishing sixth with a throw of 63.7m.

- Railway Protection Force has recently started Operation Satark with an objective of taking action against illicit liquor/FICN/illegal tobacco products/unaccounted gold and any other items being transported through railway network for the purpose of tax evasion and smuggling.
- Railway Protection Force (RPF) is a security force under the ownership of Indian Railways, Ministry of Railways, Government of India.
- It was formed in 1872 under the Railway Protection Force Act, 1957.
