West Central Railway (WCR) develops battery operated dual mode locomotive "Navdoot".

  • The West central railway (WCR) has developed battery-operated dual-mode locomotive Navdoot.
  • It is running between Jabalpur, Mudwara and other stations on trial basis.
  • Navdoot engine runs on both modes i.e. battery and electricity.
  • It has 84 batteries and has a capacity to pull 400 tonnes at present.
  • This has been developed by the Electric Department of New Katni Junction.
  • This Dual Mode Locomotive has also received the Best Innovation Award from the Railway Board.



Kerala announces the launch of India's 1st state-owned OTT platform.

  • The Kerala government will launch a state-owned over-the-top (OTT) platform on November 1, offering film lovers an array of movies, short films and documentaries of their choice.
  • Kerala will become the first state in India to have a state-owned OTT platform.
  • Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cheriyan revealed the name of the OTT platform as CSPACE.
  • CPSACE is an initiative of Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) on behalf of the state government.
  • The registration of films to be streamed on CSpace will begin on June 1.



India's Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal at the World Boxing Championships held in Istanbul.

  • India's Nikhat Zareen won gold in the Boxing World Championships defeating Thailand's Jutamas Jitpong by an unanimous decision in the finals in Istanbul.
  • Highly-rated lightweight boxer Nikhat Zareen was India’s first ever representative in the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship.
  • Telangana native Zareen became only the fifth Indian female boxer to win gold at the World Championships.
  • Six-time world champion and 2012 Olympic bronze medallist MC Mary Kom is among the four other Indian women to have won gold at the elite competition, the most recent of those victories coming in 2018 in New Delhi. The other Indian winners are L Sarita Devi, Jenny RL and Lekha C.



Prof. Nilofer Khan became the 1st woman vice-chancellor of Kashmir University.

  • Professor Nilofar Khan, who has 30 years of teaching experience, has been appointed as the 1st woman vice-chancellor of the University of Kashmir.
  • The order of appointment was issued by Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha in his capacity of being the chancellor of the university.
  • She will be replacing Professor Talat Ahmad, who completed his second tenure as the V-C of the university which began in August 2018.
  • Professor Khan, who had the distinction of being the first woman to be appointed as Dean Student Welfare at the university few years ago, has been appointed as vice-chancellor for a three-year term.



World’s 1st airport for drones and flying cars has opened in the city of Coventry, United Kingdom.

  • The world’s first airport for electric drones and flying cars just opened in the center of a city in the United Kingdom.
  • The pop-up Air-One has been built in the city of Coventry.
  • It’s designed for zero-emission electric drones and air taxis and the airport itself is powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
  • The project is the result of a partnership between Coventry City Council and U.K. start-up Urban-Air Port Ltd to demonstrate the potential of urban air mobility to cut congestion and air pollution.
