India's 1st indigenously developed vaccine qHPV to eliminate cervical cancer has been approved.

  • The DCGI’s Subject Expert Committee recommends Serum Institute’s indigenously developed quadrivalent human papillomavirus (qHPV) vaccine for cervical cancer patients above 9 years to 26 years of age.
  • Cervical cancer in India ranks as the second most frequent cancer among women between 15 and 44 years of age.
  • Every year in India, 122,844 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 67,477 die from the disease.
  • The HPV vaccine reduces a woman’s risk of cervical cancer.
  • Men cannot develop cervical cancer, but the HPV vaccine may prevent genital warts, penile cancer, anal cancer, and the spread of HPV to sexual partners.


India jumps 6 places to 37th rank on IMD's World Competitiveness Index.

  • India has jumped six positions from 43rd to 37th rank on the annual World Competitiveness Index for the year 2022.
  • The 63-nation list, which is compiled by the Switzerland-based Institute of Management Development (IMD), ranks Denmark on top, while Switzerland slipped from the top to the second position.
  • Singapore has also regained the third spot in 2022 from fifth in 2021.
  • India's ranking in the index has improved after no change for three years i.e. 2019, 2020 and 2021. During these years, India's competitive ranking stayed the same at 43. In 2018, it was 44.
  • Denmark reached the number one spot in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking (WCR) for the first time in the ranking’s 34-year history.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Jal Bhushan Building and Gallery of Revolutionaries at Raj Bhawan in Mumbai.
  • The gallery has come up in the subterranean network of 13 pre-World War-I British era bunkers, discovered in the Raj Bhavan campus in August 2016 during the tenure of the then Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao.
  • The gallery includes information on the freedom movement heroes, their role in the movement, sculptures, rare photographs, murals and details on tribal revolutionaries drawn by school-kids.


Sunil Chhetri becomes the joint 5th highest goalscorer in the International Football History.

  • The Captain of the Indian Men Football Team Sunil Chhetri has become the joint fifth highest goalscorer in International Football history.
  • Sunil Chhetri achieved this feat during the AFC Asian Cup Qualifier clash against Hong Kong where he scored his 84th goal.
  • Chhetri is now equaled legendary Real Madrid and Hungarian Player Ferenc Puskas goals scoring exploits on the international level.
  • Currently, Ronaldo is the highest goalscorer in international football with 117 goals, while Messi is in the 4th spot with a total of 86 goals.


Russia overtakes Saudi Arabia to become India's 2nd biggest oil supplier.

  • Russia has overtaken Saudi Arabia to become India's second-biggest supplier of oil behind Iraq as refiners snap up Russian crude available at a deep discount following the war in Ukraine, industry data showed.
  • Indian refiners bought about 25 million barrels of Russian oil in May, or more than 16 per cent of all their oil imports.
  • Iraq remained the top supplier to India in May and Saudi Arabia is now the third biggest supplier.
  • After the U.S. and China, India is the world’s third-largest consumer of oil, over 85 per cent of which is imported.
