Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), a constituent unit of NCERT wins UNESCO award.

  • The Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), a constituent unit of the NCERT has been awarded with the UNESCO’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in Education for the year 2021.
  • The main aim of this initiative was to reward projects that have used technology to build learning programmes that effectively ensure the continuity and quality of learning.
  • CIET will receives US$ 25,000, a medal and a diploma during a ceremony at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.


National Yoga Olympiad - 2022 and Quiz Competition inaugurated in New Delhi.

  • Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has inaugurated National Yoga Olympiad - 2022 and quiz competition in New Delhi.
  • The National Yoga Olympiad has organised jointly by the Ministry of Education and the National Council of Educational Research and Training.
  • This year about six hundred students from 26 states and UTs and Demonstration Multipurpose Schools of Regional Institutions of Education will be participating in the forthcoming National Yoga Olympiad.


Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor Project launched in New Delhi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the main tunnel and five underpasses of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor Project in New Delhi.
  • The Integrated Transit Corridor project has been built at a cost of more than Rs 920 crore, entirely funded by the central government.
  • The six-lane tunnel has access to the huge basement parking of Pragati Maidan.


India becomes 1st country to start Chess Olympiad torch relay.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the historic torch relay for the 44th Chess Olympiad at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi.
  • This year, for the very first time, the International Chess Body, FIDE, has instituted the Chess Olympiad Torch which is part of Olympic tradition but was never done in the Chess Olympiad.
  • India is first-ever country to have the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay.
  • FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich handed over the torch to Prime Minister, who in turn then handed it over to Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand.
  • This torch will then be taken to 75 cities in a span of 40 days before the final culmination at Mahabalipuram near Chennai. At every location, chess grandmasters of the state will receive the torch.
  • The 44th Chess Olympiad will be held in Chennai from July 28 to August 10, 2022.
  • The prestigious competition, which has been organised since 1927, is being hosted in India for the first time and in Asia after 30 years.


RBI approves reappointment of P.N. Vasudevan as MD, CEO of Equitas Small Finance Bank.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the extension of the tenure of Equitas Small Finance Bank (SFB) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) P.N. Vasudevan for one year beginning from July 23.
  • Vasudevan founded Equitas in 2007 as a microfinance institution (MFI).
  • He is also the Managing Director of Equitas, which began as a micro finance institution in 2007 and was later converted into bank in 2016.
