India jumps from 106th to 104th in latest FIFA world rankings.

  • The Indian men's senior national football team has moved up two places from 106th to 104th in the latest FIFA world rankings.
  • The Indian women's senior national football team too earned fruition as they advanced three places up from 59th to 56th.
  • However, India's AFC ranking remains unchanged as they stand 19th, with Iran leading the rankings in the first place.


Parameswaran Iyer replaces Amitabh Kant as the new Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog.

  • IAS officer Parameswaran Iyer has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog.
  • The Department of Personnel and Training announced his appointment.
  • He will hold the office for a period of two years.
  • Iyer's term will begin upon the completion of current CEO Amitabh Kant's tenure on June 30, 2022.
  • He had also worked as a senior rural water sanitation specialist at the United Nations.


Jammu and Kashmir to host G20 summit next year, 5-member panel formed.

  • Jammu and Kashmir will host the 2023 meetings of the G20, an influential group of the world's major economies.
  • J&K government has set up a five-member high-level committee for overall coordination of G20 meetings to be held in the Union Territory.
  • Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal was appointed as India's Sherpa for the G20 in September 2021.
  • India's representation at G20 summits has been led by Prime Minister Modi since 2014.


ONGC Videsh announces oil discovery in Colombia.

  • ONGC Videsh (OVL), a subsidiary and overseas arm of State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has made an oil discovery in the recently drilled well, Urraca-IX, in CPO-5 block, Llanos Basin, Colombia.
  • OVL had earlier discovered commercial oil in the lower sand play in Mariposa & Indico fields in the block in 2017 and 2018 which are producing 20000 barrels of oil /day.
  • Block CPO-5 was awarded to ONGC Videsh Limited in the 2008 bid round of Colombia.


World Bank approves $245 million loan to modernise India's railway logistics infrastructure.

  • The World Bank has approved a $245 million loan to support India's efforts to modernise rail freight and logistics infrastructure.
  • The Rail Logistics project will help India shift more traffic from road to rail, making transport - both freight and passenger -- more efficient and reducing millions of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) each year.
  • The project will also incentivise more private sector investment in the railway sector.
  • Indian Railways is the fourth-largest rail network in the world.
