France to make abortion a constitutional right as bill gets senate nod.

• France's Senate has approved a bill to constitutionalize abortion rights, aiming to make them irreversible.
• The National Assembly has passed the proposal in January; a joint parliamentary session is expected to finalize it with a three-fifths majority.
• President Macron has committed to safeguarding abortion rights in the constitution and has scheduled the final parliamentary vote.

Obesity rates going up across the world: Lancet study.

• The total number of children, adolescents and adults worldwide living with obesity has surpassed 1 billion.
• 159 million children and adolescents, and 879 million adults were obese in 2022.
• Among women in India, the obesity rate increased from 1.2% in 1990 to 9.8% in 2022; among men, from 0.5% in 1990 to 5.4% in 2022.
• Obesity among children worldwide increased four times from 1990 to 2022.

Tata Institute claims success in Cancer Treatment - "Rs 100 Tablet".

• The Tata Institute in Mumbai has claimed to have discovered a treatment that can prevent the resurgence of cancer the second time.
• This tablet will reduce the side effects of cancer treatment therapy by about 50 percent and the second time it is about 30 percent.
• The tablet is awaiting approval from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Cabinet approves India's 1st semiconductor fab by Tata Group.

• The Union Cabinet approved the country's first semiconductor fab to be made by the Tata Group in collaboration with Powerchip Taiwan.
• The semiconductor fab will come up in Dholera with a capacity of 50,000 wafers per month.
• A net investment of ₹27,000 crore will go into the fab. 48 million chips per day will be produced from the unit, once the full capacity is reached.

Beijing announced as host of 2027 World Athletics Championships.

• The World Athletics Council has selected Beijing, China, to host the 2027 World Athletics Championships.
• The decision was made at the 234th World Athletics Council Meeting, held in Glasgow ahead of the World Athletics Indoor Championships (1-3 March).
• China will also host next year’s World Athletics Indoor Championships, in Nanjing.
