Abhinav Bindra selected as torchbearer for 2024 Paris Olympics.

• Abhinav Bindra, India's first individual Olympic gold medalist, selected as a torchbearer for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
• Bindra will be part of the Olympic torch relay from April 16 to July 26.
• The inaugural lighting of the torch will take place on April 16 at the Olympia sanctuary in Greece.
• The torch relay will last 68 days, covering 65 territories and involving 11,000 torchbearers.

New cancer cases to soar 77% by 2050: WHO.

• The number of new cancer cases will rise to more than 35 million in 2050 - 77% higher than 2022.
• Tobacco, alcohol, obesity and air pollution being the key factors in the estimated rise.
• India had more than 14.1 lakh new cancer cases and over 9.1 lakh deaths.
• Cancers of lip, oral cavity and lung were the most common ones in men.
• Breast and cervix cancer were the most frequent ones in women.

• Pundalik K. Badiger, senior photographer who contributes to The Hindu, has won the best photographer award instituted by the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ).
• Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presented the award during the KUWJ annual conference in Davangere.
