Breast cancer to cause a million deaths a year by 2040: Lancet report.

• Breast cancer has become the most common cancer worldwide, projected to cause a million deaths annually by 2040, per the Lancet Commission.
• 7.8 million women were diagnosed in the past five years until 2020; around 685,000 fatalities reported in 2020 alone.
• The risk for women globally is now 1 in 12 for being diagnosed by age 75, with incidence rates increasing.

Hindustan Zinc becomes 3rd largest silver producer globally.

• Hindustan Zinc, Sindesar Khurd Mine in Rajasthan now stands as the world's second-largest silver-producing mine.
• Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta Group company in zinc, lead and silver businesses, is the world's second largest integrated zinc producer and now the third largest silver producer.
• The company has a market share of 75% of the growing zinc market in India with its headquarters in Udaipur.

India to deliver 1st batch of BrahMos missiles to Philippines.

• The two countries signed a deal worth almost $375 million to equip the Philippine Marines with three batteries of missiles.
• This is the first export order for the BrahMos missile developed by India and Russia.
• India has set a defense export target of ₹35,000 crore by 2024-25.
• India’s defence exports grew 32.5% last fiscal and crossed the ₹21,000-crore mark for the first time.

• Doha's Hamad International wins Skytrax World Airport Awards 2024, beating 12-time winner Singapore Changi.
• Indian airports show mixed results: Delhi remains at 36th, Mumbai drops to 95th, Bengaluru climbs to 59th, and Hyderabad improves to 61st in global rankings.

Three Indian banks in top 50 lenders in Asia-Pacific by assets.

• Three Indian banks – State Bank of India, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank – with a combined asset of $1.51 trillion, made it to the list of top 50 banks by assets in the Asia-Pacific region in 2023.
• The report has been released by S&P Global.
• ICICI Bank is a new entrant in the top 50 Asia-Pacific lender list.
• In 2022, only two Indian banks – SBI and HDFC Bank were part of it.
