India to host 46th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting in Kochi.

• The Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, through the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, will host the 46th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting and the 26th Meeting of the Committee for Environmental Protection from May 20 to 30, 2024, in Kochi, Kerala.
• The Antarctic Treaty was signed in 1959 and entered into force in 1961.

India condemned China's illegal infra development in Shaksgam Valley.

• India lodged strong protest with China over construction activities in strategically key Shaksgam valley.
• The Trans-Karakoram Tract, also known as Shaksgam Tract, is a disputed area of approximately 5,200 km² north of the Karakoram watershed, including the Shaksgam valley.
• The tract is administered by China as part of Taxkorgan and Yecheng counties in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

Uttarakhand Govt. announced "Nakshatra Sabha" astro tourism campaign.

• Uttarakhand Tourism partnered with Starscapes for Nakshatra Sabha, the India's first Astro Tourism initiative.
• Activities include stargazing, solar observations, astrophotography contests, and camping.
• Aim: Attract astronomy enthusiasts, adventurers, and travelers to marvel at the cosmos.
• Scheduled to kick off in early June at George Everest in Mussoorie, it will continue until mid-2025.
