India’s first research testbed to study Nor’westers.

  • Jointly developed by IMD, IITM Pune, and NCMRWF Delhi, the testbed will track nor’westers using drones, mobile vans, and high-end meteorological instruments in Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
  • It aims to improve thunderstorm predictions and issue timely warnings to save lives.
  • The testbed will house a 100-meter flux tower, automatic weather stations, rain gauges, and other vital instruments.

  • Major Radhika Sen, an Indian woman peacekeeper, who served with the UN mission in Congo, will be honored with a prestigious 2023 UN Military Gender Advocate of the Year.

  • Nepalese climber Purnima Shrestha has climbed Mount Everest today three times this season.
  • Purnima, who works as a photojournalist, climbed it on May 12, May 19 and on May 25.
  • She’s previously climbed 8 other 8,000-metre peaks, including:
    • K2 (8,611 m), Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Makalu (8,481 m), Manaslu (8,163 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) and Annapurna I (8,091 m).
