Manu Bhaker to Lead India at Paris Olympics 2024 Closing Ceremony.

• The 22-year-old shooter from Haryana had created history by winning two bronze medals at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
• She became the first markswoman from India to win an Olympic medal in an individual 10m air pistol event at the ongoing Olympic Games.
• She then joined forces with Sarabjot Singh to bag the 10m air pistol mixed team bronze.

India Approves ₹5,000 Crore for Nepal's Hydropower Project.

• India has approved ₹5,792 crore for the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydropower Project in Nepal, managed by Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN).
• The project, set for completion in five years, will be located in Sankhuwasabha District, Nepal, with four units of 167.25 MW each.
• SJVN is also working on the 900 MW Arun 3 Hydropower Project, expected to finish by end of 2024.

India to Host 3rd Voice of the Global South Summit on August 17.

• India will host the third Voice of the Global South Summit on August 17, 2024, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on global issues like conflicts, development, and climate change.
• The summit aims to enhance cooperation among developing nations from Latin America, Africa, and Asia, continuing from previous summits with themes of unity and growth.

Central Govt Declares New Peacock Sanctuaries.

• Union Minister Bhupender Yadav confirmed that Adichunchanagiri in Karnataka and Choolannuar in Kerala are newly declared Peacock Sanctuaries.
• Conservation efforts include setting up breeding and conservation centers for peacocks.
• The Indian peafowl is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
• Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is the largest bird sanctuary in India.

Noah Lyles Wins U.S. Men’s 100-Meter Olympic Gold After 20 Years.

• Noah Lyles won the men’s 100-meter gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a time of 9.784 seconds, narrowly beating Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson by 0.005 seconds.
