India elected to GlobE Network Steering Committee.

  • India has been elected to the 15-member steering committee of the GlobE Network, an international platform to combat corruption and financial crime.
  • The GlobE Network, launched under the G20 framework, includes 121 member countries and aims to enhance cross-border cooperation against corruption.
  • CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) represent India within the network.


PM Modi Launches PARAM Rudra Supercomputing Systems.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three PARAM Rudra supercomputing systems in Pune.
  • Developed under the National Supercomputing Mission, these systems, worth approximately ₹130 crores, will be deployed in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata.
  • The high-performance computing system will also support weather and climate research, contributing significantly to advancements in these fields.


Centre Declares Eco-Sensitive Zone Around Gir Protected Area.

  • The Indian government has designated 1.84 lakh hectares around the Gir Protected Area as an Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) to conserve the Asiatic lions and promote sustainable development.
  • This ESZ encompasses 196 villages across three districts and includes 17 rivers, with a buffer zone of 10 km from the Gir Protected Area's boundary.

India to host World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA).

  • India is set to host the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) for the first time in October 2024.
  • In preparation, the Department of Telecommunications has launched nationwide outreach sessions in cities like Delhi, Bengaluru & Hyderabad, engaging over 950 students to discuss the future of global communications.
  • It will bring together representatives from over 190 countries.


Govt to issue ₹20,000 crore Sovereign Green Bonds in four tranches.

  • The central government plans to raise ₹20,000 crore through Sovereign Green Bonds in the second half of FY 2024-25.
  • The bonds, issued in four tranches of ₹5,000 crore each, will fund environmentally sustainable projects.
  • The SGB (Sovereign Green Bond) raised will be part of aggregate borrowing program & has to be used for projects which are ESG (environment, social and governance) compliant.
