India Overtook China as Top Source of International Students in the US.

  • India surpassed China as the top source of international students in the US, sending over 3.3 lakh students in the 2023-24 academic year, marking a 23% increase from the previous year.
  • The increase is particularly noticeable in graduate programs (up by 19%) and optional practical training participation (up by 41%).
  • Indian students contributed $11.8 billion to the US economy.


6.2 Lakh applications received for Prime Minister Internship Scheme.

  • PMIS offers over 1.25 lakh internships across 25 sectors in 745 districts, aimed at boosting youth employability.
  • The Ministry of Corporate Affairs administers the scheme with a budget of ₹800 crore, targeting internships for youth aged 21-24 in FY25.
  • Youth aged 21-24 and who have passed 10th, 12th, ITI, Polytechnic, diploma or graduates are eligible to avail the benefits under the scheme.

  • The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC) introduced the One Day One Genome initiative to showcase the enormous microbial potential of India.
  • Amitabh Kant, India’s G-20 Sherpa and Former CEO NITI announced the launch of One Day One Genome Initiative on the 1st foundation day of BRIC held in National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi.


India to Host First Kho Kho World Cup with IOA Support.

  • India will host the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup at IGI Stadium, New Delhi, from January 13-19, 2025, marking a historic milestone for traditional sports.
  • The tournament will feature 24 teams from six continents.
  • Team members: 15 players per side, 12 in the field in 4 batches, and 3 extra.

India and Italy strengthened Strategic Action Plan 2025-29.

  • Prime Minister Modi and Italian PM Giorgia Meloni met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil to enhance the India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan for 2025-29.
  • Focus was on the India-Middle East Economic Corridor, Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, migration, Industry 4.0, and scientific cooperation through a new Executive Programme for 2025-27.
