Fisheries Sector Outpaces Agriculture, Contributes 9% to Economy.

• Union Minister for Fisheries Rajeev Ranjan Singh highlighted that fisheries contribute 9% to India's economy, surpassing agriculture’s 4-5%.
• He virtually laid the foundation stone for an Integrated Aqua Park in Kailashahar, Tripura, part of 11 planned parks, with four in the northeast.
• Tripura’s fish demand stands at 1.5 lakh metric tonnes annually.

India Launches "Sagar Mein Samman" Initiative for Women in Maritime.

• Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal unveiled Sagar Mein Samman (SMS) to promote gender equity and increase women’s participation in the maritime sector.
• The policy provides a structured roadmap for safety, leadership, skill development, and retention of women in maritime roles.
• India has seen a 649% growth in women seafarers from 341 in 2014 to 2,557 in 2024, reflecting government efforts.

DPIIT and GEAPP Partner to Boost Clean Energy Innovation.

• DPIIT signed an MoU with Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) to accelerate sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship in India’s clean energy sector.
• The two-year partnership aims to support climate-tech startups through funding, mentorship, and pilot opportunities, aligning with India’s net-zero goals.

India to Participate in LIMA 2025, Strengthening Defence Ties.

• Sanjay Seth will lead India’s delegation at the 17th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2025) in Malaysia.
• He will inaugurate the Indian Pavilion and hold discussions with Malaysian Defence Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin.
