Centre Approves Procurement of Over 1 Lakh MT Pulses and Oilseeds.

• The Centre has approved the procurement of a total quantity of 54 thousand and 166 metric tonnes of Moong under the Price Support Scheme in the States of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat for the summer crop season 2025-26.
• The Government has also approved the procurement of 50 thousand 750 metric tonnes of Groundnut in Uttar Pradesh for Summer Crop Season 2025-26.

AviList: First-ever unified global checklist of bird species.

• The world’s first unified global checklist of bird species, called AviList, was officially launched, standardizing bird taxonomy across international conservation, research, and biodiversity platforms.
• AviList was created by the Working Group on Avian Checklists, under the International Ornithologists’ Union.
• It involved four years of detailed analysis and consensus-building among experts.

UP govt digitises National Family Benefit Scheme for transparency.

• The Uttar Pradesh government's, National Family Benefit Scheme -- designed to provide relief to poor and vulnerable families has been made more transparent, efficient and people-friendly.
• The entire process from application to payment is now digital and accountable at every stage.
• As per the new framework, beneficiaries receive their financial aid within 75 days of applying.

As Antarctic sea ice shrinks, iconic emperor penguins are in danger.

• Climate change is causing Antarctic sea ice to melt early, threatening the survival of Emperor Penguins.
• Emperor Penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri).
• It breeds at about 54 colonies around Antarctica, with the largest colonies in the Ross Sea and Weddell Sea.
• It is the biggest in the 18 species of Penguin found today, and one of the largest of all birds.
• IUCN Red List: Near Threatened.

New air-conditioners to have 20 degrees C as minimum temperature.

• The Union Ministry of Power is considering mandating that new air conditioners (ACs) in India operate only within a temperature range of 20°C to 28°C to curb energy consumption.
• The government is also supporting battery storage projects with a Rs 5,400 crore viability gap fund, aiming to attract Rs 33,000 crore in investment.
