India records $13.5 billion current account surplus in March quarter.

• India's current account saw a surplus of $13.5 billion in Q4 FY25, a significant turnaround from previous deficits, driven by robust services exports and reduced primary income outgo.
• While the merchandise trade deficit widened, increased remittances and strong service sector performance contributed to an overall improved current account deficit of $23.3 billion for the entire fiscal year.

Google DeepMind unveils AlphaGenome.

• Google DeepMind has released a new tool called AlphaGenome.
• This is a new AI model that is specifically tuned to accurately predict how individual mutations in human DNA affect their functions.
• It can analyze extremely long DNA sequences (up to 1 million base pairs) and predict how genetic variants affect gene regulation.
• It is trained using large public genomic datasets.

Parag Jain appointed as new RAW Chief, succeeds Ravi Sinha.

• Parag Jain, a 1989-batch IPS officer from the Punjab cadre, has been appointed as the new chief of RAW, succeeding Ravi Sinha on July 1, 2025.
• His appointment, for a fixed two-year term, comes as India navigates complex external security challenges and evolving geopolitical dynamics.

Agra to Host New International Centre for Potato Research.

• Union Cabinet approves establishment of CIP-South Asia Regional Center (CSARC) in Singna, Agra district.
• It will work with the International Potato Center, Peru.
• Aims to improve potato seed quality and yields.
• Will support Indian farmers and boost productivity.
• Expected to increase potato processing and exports.
• Strengthens India’s role in global potato research.

Centre announces Adi Karmyogi programme.

• The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched the Adi Karmyogi Programme.
• While Adi Karmyogi is specifically for tribal affairs, it aligns with the broader Mission Karmayogi (launched in 2020) – the National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building (NPCSCB).
• To capacitate nearly 20 lakh stakeholders involved in tribal welfare delivery.
