Bihar’s Gokul Jalashaya and Udaipur Jheel Designated as Ramsar Wetland.

• Gokul Jalashaya in Buxar (448 ha) and Udaipur Jheel in West Champaran (319 ha) have been granted Ramsar site status.
• Ramsar sites are wetlands of international importance recognized under the Ramsar Convention, headquartered in Gland, Switzerland.
• With these additions, India now has 93 Ramsar sites, covering a total area of 13,60,719 hectares.

Oil India Reports First Natural Gas Discovery off Andaman Islands.

• Oil India Ltd (OIL) announced the first confirmed hydrocarbon discovery off the Andaman Islands, highlighting the region’s energy potential.
• Hydrocarbon Resource Assessment Study (HRAS) estimates 371 MMTOE in the AN Basin, part of the Bengal-Arakan sedimentary system.
• The area lies at the tectonic boundary between the Indian and Burmese plates, forming stratigraphic traps.

SC Strikes Down Rajasthan VAT Exemption for Asbestos Product.

• The Supreme Court invalidated a 2007 Rajasthan government notification that exempted VAT on locally manufactured asbestos sheets and bricks, ruling it discriminatory under Article 304(a) of the Constitution.
• The Court held that taxation cannot favour local products over similar goods from other states, as this would violate free trade principles within India.

India beat Bangladesh 4-1 to win 7th SAFF Under17 football title.

• India secured their seventh SAFF U-17 Championship title by defeating Bangladesh 4-1 in a penalty shootout at Racecourse International Stadium, Colombo.
• Coach Bibiano Fernandes celebrated his fifth SAFF title, adding the U-17 crown to the SAFF U19 title won in Arunachal Pradesh in May 2025.

India Clinches Seven Medals at Para World Archery Championships.

• India won seven medals at the Para World Archery Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, including three golds, one silver, and three bronze.
• Sheetal Devi (18) made history as the first woman armless archer to win a world championship gold in the compound individual category.
• Toman Kumar won the men’s compound individual gold.
• Shailesh Kumar won gold in Men’s High Jump T63/42.
