- The Punjab government has decided to grant holy city status to three towns that host three of the five Takhts: Amritsar walled city, Talwandi Sabo (Bathinda), and Sri Anandpur Sahib (Ropar).
- In these newly designated holy cities, the sale and use of meat, liquor, tobacco, and intoxicants will be prohibited, fulfilling a long-standing demand of devotees.
