• The presidency aims to promote people-centric development and global welfare.
• The launch marks the start of India’s preparations amid rising global challenges.
• India seeks to strengthen cooperation among emerging economies and advance shared development goals.

IRENA Assembly urges faster global renewable transition.

• The 16th International Renewable Energy Agency Assembly ended on Jan 12 with over 1,500 global leaders urging faster adoption of affordable renewable energy.
• Members adopted IRENA’s 2026–27 work programme & reaffirmed support for the agency’s 171-nation mandate.
• India showcased PM-KUSUM, with 1 million solar pumps & 10,200 MW added, highlighting renewables for farming & rural livelihoods.

White dwarf spotted creating a colourful cosmic shockwave.

• Astronomers observed a magnetised white dwarf in a binary system producing a colourful bow shock 730 light-years away in Auriga.
• Using ESO’s Very Large Telescope, scientists saw gas from the star collide with interstellar matter, glowing red, green and blue.
• Unlike similar systems, this white dwarf lacks a gas disk yet is ejecting material for reasons still unknown.

NSFs told to form "Make in India" & global sports panels.

• GoI asked all National Sports Federations to set up International Relations and Make in India in Sports committees.
• The global panel will track international federation rules, governance and diplomacy while ensuring alignment with Olympic and anti-doping norms.
• The Make in India panel will link federations with Indian manufacturers, startups and labs to boost domestic sports equipment.

India to Co-Chair 16th ADMM-Plus Counter Terrorism Meet.

• India and Malaysia will co-chair the 16th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM)-Plus EWG on Counter Terrorism in New Delhi from Jan 14–16, 2026, with ASEAN and dialogue partner nations.
• The meeting will review progress and plan activities to boost multilateral CT cooperation.
• Malaysia will host a Table Top Exercise in 2026, followed by India’s Field Training Exercise in 2027.
