BRICS Women Ministers Reach Consensus on First Joint Statement.

• BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting concluded in Kochi, India, on July 9, 2026.
• Adopted the first-ever Joint Statement under the BRICS Women Track during India’s BRICS Chairmanship.
• Focused on promoting women-led development, digital inclusion, entrepreneurship, climate resilience, and food security.
• India introduced two initiatives:
• BRICS Digital Repository of Best Practices
• BRICS Digital Capacity Building Guidelines
• Showcased Indian women-led initiatives including Lakhpati Didi, SARAS, ASMITA, and SHE-Box.
• India holds the BRICS Chairmanship for 2026.

India Extends Trade Protection Duty on Chinese Seamless Tubes.

• India extended anti-dumping duty on Chinese seamless tubes and pipes until January 27, 2027.
• Applies to seamless tubes, pipes, and hollow profiles made of iron, alloy, or non-alloy steel.
• Duty was originally imposed on October 28, 2021, for five years.
• Extension issued by CBIC to protect domestic manufacturers.
• Separate anti-dumping duty on Normal Butanol imports from Malaysia, South Africa, and the USA was also extended for five years.

Tamil Nadu Achieves Top Position in Higher Education GER with 52.3%.

• AISHE 2023-24 report released by the Ministry of Education.
• Tamil Nadu ranked first in Higher Education GER with 52.3%, up by 3.2% from the previous year.
• Tamil Nadu added 70 colleges, taking the total number of institutions to 2,983.
• India’s total higher education enrolment reached 4.50 crore students, with females accounting for 49.7%.
• Female GER (31.2%) surpassed male GER (28.9%) for the seventh consecutive year.
• Gender Parity Index (GPI) improved to 1.08, showing better female participation.
• NEP 2020 aims to achieve 50% GER in higher education by 2035.

New India-Kyrgyzstan Centre Launched for Shared Civilizational Research.

• India-Kyrgyzstan launched the Manas and Mahabharata Civilizational Studies Centre in Bishkek.
• Established by Manas National Academy and Centre for Studies of International Relations, New Delhi.
• Released the first Hindi translation of Kyrgyz epic Manas.
• Signed academic cooperation agreements with seven Kyrgyz universities.
• Aims to promote cultural and civilizational ties between India and Eurasia.
