Alejandro Prieto won the Bird Photographer of the Year 2021 award.

  • Mexican photographer Alexander Prito has won the World photographer of the Year award 2021.
  • His photo features a roadrunner at a new section of the border wall between Mexico and the USA.
  • His image won gold award in the Birds in environment category.
  • His photo was selected from more than 22000 the submissions by photographer from around the world.



Punjab Govt launched "Innovation Mission Punjab" to boost the start-up sector.

  • IMPunjab is a public-private partnership mission that will bring together global investors and experts to catalyze start-ups.
  • This mission will boost the growth potential of Punjab and create a thriving economy through generating employment and inviting investment.
  • It will also mobilize a global pool of ambassadors and partners to attract investment, mentorship and market access.
  • It will leverage the strength of the Punjabi diaspora and allow them to participate in the new growth story of Punjab apart from running focused programs to encourage entrepreneurship among women.
  • The mission will act as a catalyst towards fostering growth by uniting all stakeholders like incubators, academia, investors, startups, progressive farmers, government, sportspersons, media, industry and corporates.
  • It is a unique Public-Private Partnership Project which will be championed by the private sector and a strong government support.



J B Mohapatra has been appointed as the new chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes.

  • Senior bureaucrat JB Mohapatra has been appointed as the chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
  • Mohapatra, a 1985-batch Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) officer, is currently a member of the board that formulates policy for the Income Tax Department.
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of JB Mohapatra as the Chairman of CBDT.
  • Mohapatra is holding the additional charge of CBDT chairman with effect from May 31, after the extended tenure of incumbent PC Modi comes to an end.



J&K LG Manoj Sinha inaugurated the "Saath" initiative for women.

  • The Rural Enterprises Acceleration Programme named Saath was launched for Self-Help Group women.
  • It was launched by Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha.
  • The programme will transform the lives of the women, make them independent to deal with social and financial sectors.
  • The programme will provide mentorship and market connectivity to the products developed by SHGs.
  • It will transform the lives of the women who are associated with SHGs and doing small work.
  • The programme will guide the women in every aspect like packaging, marketing, branding, finance, skills so that they can uplift their businesses.
  • Under this Saath programme, workshops will be held for 5,000 women. Further from this, 500 women will be selected who will undergo intensive training and a further 100 will be selected for the mentoring.
  • Women will be trained in the sectors like Agriculture, Poultry, Animal Husbandry, handloom, and handicraft, and many others.
