NPCI partnered with Liquid Group to enable UPI QR-based payment acceptance in 10 Asian markets.

  • NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) has partnered with Liquid Group Pte. Ltd. (Liquid Group) to enable UPI QR-based payment acceptance in 10 markets across North Asia and South East Asia.
  • Liquid Group is a leading cross-border digital payments provider headquartered in Singapore.
  • It operates a QR payment acceptance network that enables cross-border acceptance of payment plans and digital payment apps.
  • This partnership will help BHIM app users to make UPI QR-based payments from early 2022 in 10 markets including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan.



Ministry of Law and Justice launched "Ek Pahal" campaign for doorstep delivery of justice.

  • The Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice has launched the Ek Pahal campaign to encourage mass registration under Tele-Law.
  • Tele-law means the use of communication and information technology to provide legal information and advice.
  • The Department of Justice has partnered with NALSA and CSC e-Governance Services India Limited to mainstream legal aid to marginalized communities through Common Service Centers (CSCs).
  • This e-interaction between lawyers and people will happen through video-conferencing infrastructure available at CSCs.
  • Ek Pahal Abhiyan will run from September 17 to October 2 across the country.



Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology inaugurated 3 NIELIT centers in the northeastern states.

  • Physically one of the NIELIT centers was inaugurated in Churachandpur district of Manipur.
  • Whereas, two other centers were inaugurated in Kokrajhar and Tezpur districts of Assam.
  • On the occasion, two existing centers in Imphal and Aizawl districts of Mizoram were upgraded.
  • NIELIT centers in Churachandpur district, these NIELIT centers will soon act as employment generation centers in collaboration with the center and states.
  • These centers will not only be training centres, but they will also be centers to skill the youth and bring them in the race for opportunities and jobs.



IIT Delhi has developed a device that can generate electricity through water droplets to power small electronic devices.

  • Researchers at IIT Delhi have designed an innovative device that can generate electricity from water droplets, raindrops, water currents and ocean waves.
  • The device is known as a liquid-solid interface triboelectric nanogenerator.
  • The new device produces electricity using the triboelectric effect and electrostatic induction, and stores the energy in a battery for consumption.
  • It can generate power of only a few milliwatts (mW), enough to power small electronic devices such as health care sensors, digital thermometers, watches, radio frequency transmitters, pedometers.



World Bank Group Discontinues Doing Business Report.

  • The World Bank Group has announced the closure of the Doing Business report.
  • The decision was taken by the Board of Executive Directors of World Bank Group Management following reports of data irregularities on Doing Business 2018 and 2020.
  • To fill the void created by the closure of this report, the World Bank is working on a new approach to assessing the trade and investment climate.
  • The book will be published by Princeton University Press.
