Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov wins the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.

• Filipino-American journalist Maria Ressa and Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov have been jointly awarded the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
• Both have been honored for their efforts to protect freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.
• Maria Angelita Ressa is a Filipino-American journalist and author, co-founder and CEO of Rapper, a Philippine online news website.
• Dmitry Andreyevich Muratov is a Russian journalist and editor-in-chief of the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta.

IFSCA launches Global Fintech Hackathon Series "i-Sprint'21".

• The International Financial Services Centers Authority (IFSCA) has launched the global fintech hackathon series i-Sprint'21 on October 07, 2021.
• The first sprint in the series is Sprint01: BankTech, which focuses on fintech for the banking sector.
• Sprint01: Banktech is jointly organized by IFSCA and GIFT City in association with NITI Aayog.
• The hackathon participants are ICICI Bank, HSBC Bank, iCreate, Zone Startup and Invest-India.
• The hackathon will be held virtually and is open to all eligible fintechs around the world.

Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched "MyPortApp" for digital monitoring of port operations.

• The Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal has launched a mobile application named MyPortApp to promote transparency and easy access to port related information.
• The app will provide all the details regarding the port in India and also monitor the operations virtually.
• Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched the app from Kolkata on October 08, 2021 during his 2-day visit to West Bengal, where he inaugurated, launched and dedicated several projects worth Rs 352 crore to the nation.

Maharashtra government launched "Mission Kavach Kundal".

• The state government of Maharashtra has launched a special COVID-19 vaccination campaign called Mission Kavach Kundal with a target to vaccinate 15 lakh people daily.
• The week long drive has been organized from 08 October to 14 October 2021.
• This campaign is in line with the Centre's target of reaching the 100 crore vaccination mark by 15 October 2021.

The Economist Gandhi: The Roots and Relevance of the Mahatma's Political Economy by Jaitirtha Rao.

• Indian entrepreneur and author Jaitirtha Rao, popularly known as Jerry Rao, has come up with a book on Mahatma Gandhi titled The Economist Gandhi: The Roots and the Relevance of the Political Economy of the Mahatma.
• The book examines the economic philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi and his hidden personality- views on economics and capitalism.
• The book is published by Penguin Random House India.
• Jaitirtha Rao is the founder and former CEO of software company Mphasys.
