USA economists David Card, Joshua Angrist and Guido Imbens wins the 2021 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences.

  • The 2021 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences is awarded in two parts, the first half being awarded to David Card for his empirical contributions to labor economics.
  • The second half was jointly won by Joshua D. Angrist and Guido W. Imbens has been awarded for his methodological contributions to the analysis of causal relationships.
  • The award is officially known as the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2021.
  • Prize winners in economic sciences are selected by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm.



The Astronautical Society of India presented the 2021 Aryabhata Award to Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy.

  • Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary DDR&D and Chairman DRDO, has been conferred with the prestigious Aryabhata Award for 2021 by the Astronautical Society of India (ASI) on October 09, 2021.
  • Dr G Satheesh Reddy has been awarded for his outstanding life-time contribution in promoting astronautics in India.
  • The Aryabhata Award is presented annually by the Astronautical Society of India (ASI) to individuals with remarkable lifelong contributions to astronautics and aerospace technology in India.
  • The award consists of a citation and Rs. 1,00,000 in cash.



Former SBI chief Rajnish Kumar released the memoir "The Custodian of Trust".

  • Former State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman Rajnish Kumar has released his memoir titled The Custodian of Trust - A Banker's Memoir.
  • The book has been published by Peguin Random House India.
  • It gave a rare insight into how the financial system works in our country.
  • The Trust's Custodian presents Kumar's journey from a modest home in the old city of Meerut to becoming a Probationary Officer in SBI in 1980 and rising to the rank of Chairman in 2017.



The unique festival of flowers, Bathukamma begins in Telangana.

  • The famous Bathukamma flower festival celebrations have begun in Telangana state and parts of Andhra Pradesh.
  • The nine-day festival begins on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya (also known as Pitru Amavasya) and ends on Durgashtami which is two days before Dussehra.
  • Goddess Maha Gauri - the Life Giver is worshiped in the form of Bathukamma.
  • To mark the festival, a plethora of beautiful flowers with various unique seasonal flowers are made in seven concentric layers in the shape of a temple gopuram.



UNDP released the 2021 Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) report.

  • The report has been jointly prepared by UNDP and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI).
  • The report provides an estimate on multidimensional poverty in 109 developing countries (with data from the 2009-2019/2020 surveys);
  • These include 26 low income countries, 80 middle income countries and 3 high income countries.
  • The index measures each individual's deprivation in 10 indicators divided into three equally weighted dimensions.
  • The search is based on 109 countries and 5.9 billion people. Of this, 1.3 billion people are multidimensionally poor (or 21.7%).
  • In India, five out of six multidimensional poor people belonged to lower tribes or castes.
