Rocket scientist S Somanath appointed as new ISRO chief.
- Senior rocket scientist S. Somnath has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Secretary, Department of Space.
- Rocket scientist S Somanath will take place of K. Sivan as ISRO Chief.
- K Sivan was appointed as ISRO chief in January 2018 and was given a one-year extension till January 14, 2022.
- S Somnath will be the 10th chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation.
- Before this he was serving as the Director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Trivandrum, Kerala.
India's 1st heli-hub will be set up in Gurugram, Haryana.
- India's 1st heli-hub with all aviation facilities is proposed to be built in Gurugram, Haryana.
- Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala announced this.
- The 1st of its kind heli-hub will have all the facilities for helicopters at one place like heliport, hangar, maintenance of air taxis and chartered helicopters.
- The main objective of this heli-hub is to create landing and take-off points for various helicopter services to the national capital.

- Arundhati Bhattacharya, the former chair of the State Bank of India (SBI), has come out with her new book titled Indomitable: A Working Woman’s Notes on Work, Life and Leadership.
- In this book, Arundhati describes her life as a banker and the challenges she faced in a male-dominated industry.
- She talks about her childhood, early education, college education and then her career in State Bank of India (SBI).
- The book is published by Harper's Business.
- Arundhati Bhattacharya was the first woman to head the State Bank of India (SBI).
- She is currently the chairperson and CEO of Salesforce India, a cloud-based SaaS company headquartered in San Francisco.
PM Narendra Modi inaugurates 11 new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu.
- PM Narendra Modi inaugurates 11 new government medical colleges and a new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) in Tamil Nadu on January 12, 2022 via video conferencing.
- 11 new medical colleges have been set up at an estimated cost of about Rs 4,080 crore.
- This includes about Rs 2,145 crore by the central government and the remaining contribution by the Tamil Nadu government.
- New medical colleges have been set up at Virudhunagar, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Tiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram and Krishnagiri.
- The new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) with state-of-the-art infrastructure was inaugurated at Perumbakkam near Chennai. It has been constructed at a cost of Rs 24 crore.
Adani Group signed MoU with South Korea's largest steel maker POSCO to develop a steel mill in Gujarat.
- Industrialist Gautam Adani-led Adani Group and South Korea's largest steel maker POSCO have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore business opportunities in India.
- This includes setting up of a green, eco-friendly integrated steel mill in Mundra, Gujarat.
- The estimated investment of the project is up to $5 billion (about Rs 37,000 crore).
- The non-binding MoU intends to cooperate at the group business level in various other areas such as renewable energy, hydrogen and logistics in response to carbon reduction requirements.
