US-made supercomputer "Frontier" surpasses Japan's "Fugaku" as world's fastest supercomputer.

  • US-built supercomputer titled Frontier on Monday dethroned Japan's Fugaku (developed by the Riken Institute and Fujitsu), as the world's fastest machine with 1.1 exaflops of performance.
  • The Frontier supercomputer at the US Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the first to achieve an unprecedented level of computing performance known as exascale, a threshold of a quintillion calculations per second.
  • Frontier's speeds surpassed those of any other supercomputer in the world, including ORNL's Summit, which is also housed at ORNL's Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility.



Defense Ministry signs Rs 2,971 crore contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).

  • The defence ministry sealed a contract worth Rs 2,971 crore with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) to procure several batches of the Astra MK-I beyond visual range (BVR) air-to-air missiles and associated equipment.
  • The missiles are being procured for the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Indian Navy.
  • The Astra MK-I BVR AAM has been indigenously designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) based on the requirements issued by the IAF.
  • The Astra MK-I missile and all associated systems for its launch, ground handling and testing have been developed by the DRDO in coordination with the IAF.



Uttar Pradesh won the title of 12th National Junior Hockey Tournament.

  • Uttar Pradesh won the National Junior Hockey Tournament at Kovilpatti for the 2nd time.
  • The 12th National Junior Hockey Tournament started on the 17th at the Artificial Lawn Ground in Kovilpatti.
  • Uttar Pradesh team won the Champions Trophy with a score of 2 – 0 by defeating Haryana.
  • Uttar Pradesh team also won the 11th National Junior Hockey Tournament at Kovilpatti last year.



Book "Listen to Your Heart: The London Adventure" published on Ruskin Bond's 88th birthday.

  • A new book titled “Listen to Your Heart: The London Adventure” authored by Ruskin Bond, was published by Penguin Random House India (PRHI) on Ruskin Bond’s 88th birthday (19th May 2022).
  • Ruskin Bond, India’s famous Children’s book author, was born in Kasauli (Himachal Pradesh) and grew up in Jamnagar (Gujarat), Dehradun (Uttarakhand), New Delhi and Shimla (Himachal Pradesh).
  • His latest book, Listen to Your Heart: The London Adventure was released on his 88th birthday, gives readers a peek into the four years he spent in the Channel Islands and England.



Natarajan Sundar appointed as MD and CEO of National Assets Reconstruction Company Limited.

  • National Assets Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) has informed that Natarajan Sundar has assumed the charge of MD and CEO of the Rs 6,000-crore bad bank.
  • Prior to this, Sundar was Deputy Managing Director and Chief Credit Officer of SBI.
  • He retired on April 30, 2022.
  • NARCL has also appointed Karnam Sekar as the independent director and non-executive chairman of the board.
