"Nari Ko Naman" scheme launched by Himachal Pradesh government for women.

  • Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has launched a Naari Ko Naman scheme.
  • The chief minister had announced the 50 per cent concession on bus fares to women on April 15, Himachal Day.
  • The scheme was launched at the Government College Auditorium in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.


Ketanji Brown Jackson becomes the first black woman to serve on the US Supreme Court.

  • The United States made history as Ketanji Brown Jackson was sworn in as the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.
  • The 51-year-old Jackson is the court’s 116th justice, and she took the place of the justice she once worked for.
  • Ms Jackson, 51, will replace Justice Stephen Breyer, joining the court's three-member liberal minority.
  • Jackson is the 116th justice, sixth woman and third Black person to serve on the Supreme Court since its 1789 founding.
  • Biden appointed Jackson last year to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit after she spent eight years as a federal district judge.


Happiest Minds Technologies founder Ashok Soota conferred with CII Quality Ratna Award 2021.

  • Ashok Soota, founder and Executive Chairman of Happiest Minds Technologies, has been conferred with CII Quality Ratna Award 2021.
  • The annual CII Quality Ratna Award, instituted in the year 2019, is given in recognition of outstanding leadership, contribution and distinguished service to the quality movement in India.
  • The CII Awards Committee unanimously concurred to bestow the 2021 Award to Mr. Soota considering his significant contribution to building the competitiveness of the Indian industry through quality Initiatives.


Single use plastic banned in India.

  • Ban on manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of identified single use plastic items has come into force from 1 July 2022 across the country.
  • Single-use plastic are those items that are used only once and discarded.
  • National and state level control rooms will be set up for checking illegal manufacture and use of banned single for the effective enforcement of ban.


Unmanned Flying Wing successfully maiden flight by DRDO.

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out the maiden flight of the Autonomous Flying Wing Technology Demonstrator from the Aeronautical Test Range, Chitradurga, and Karnataka.
  • Powered by a small turbofan engine, the unmanned aerial vehicle is designed and developed by Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bengaluru, a premier research laboratory of DRDO.
  • The airframe, undercarriage and entire flight control and avionics systems used for the aircraft had been developed indigenously.
