• Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko set a world record for most time spent in space, surpassing 878 days or nearly two-and-a-half years.
• Kononenko broke the record while orbiting Earth during his fifth space flight, scheduled to end in late September, when he will have logged a total of 1,110 days in space.
• Kononenko emphasized the significance of Russia's continued dominance in space sector.
