  • Michel Talagrand has won the 2024 Abel prize for his work researching probability theory and the extremes of randomness.
  • The 2024 Abel prize is sometimes called the Nobel prize of mathematics.
  • Talagrand, based at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), has spent a large part of his four-decade career characterising the extremes of random, or stochastic, systems.


India’s employment conditions continue to be poor, says ILO report.

  • India’s youth account for almost 83% of the unemployed workforce and the share of youngsters with secondary or higher education in the total unemployed youth has almost doubled from 35.2% in 2000 to 65.7% in 2022.
  • The India Employment Report 2024, released by the International Labour Organisation and the Institute of Human Development remarked this.


ISRO's POEM-3 mission achieved Zero debris re-entry.

  • ISRO successfully re-entered POEM-3 into Earth's atmosphere without debris in orbit, after PSLV-C58/XPoSat mission.
  • The PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM) is an initiative by ISRO aimed at repurposing spent stages of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, specifically the 4th stage, PS4.
  • To keep POEM alive and stable in orbit, ISRO rely on its Navigation Guidance and Control (NGC) system.

Tata Cummins started facility for hydrogen-based engines in Jamshedpur.

  • Tata Cummins Pvt Ltd has inaugurated a factory in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand which will produce hydrogen-based internal combustion engines for medium and heavy commercial vehicles.
  • The factory, spanning seven acres, was opened a year after the MoU with Jharkhand government.
  • It will also produce low to zero-emission tech products.
  • TCPL is a joint venture of Tata Motors Ltd and Cummins Inc. USA.


ISRO released 1st images captured by satellite "INSAT-3DS".

  • INSAT-3DS is an exclusive meteorological satellite realized by ISRO with the primary objective of providing continuity of services to the existing in-orbit INSAT-3D and 3DR satellites and enhancing the capabilities of the INSAT system.
  • The satellite is a user-funded project with the Ministry of Earth Science, configured around ISRO's I-2k bus platform with a Lift-Off Mass of 2275 kg.
