Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2024 Awarded for Advances in Protein Design.

• David Baker, Demis Hassabis, and John M. Jumper shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
• Baker was recognized for his work in computational protein design, while Hassabis and Jumper were awarded for breakthroughs in protein structure prediction.
• The Nobel Prize carries a cash award of 10 million Swedish kronor and will be presented on December 10, as per Alfred Nobel's will.

India to Host World Pickleball Championship Series for the First Time.

• Mumbai will host the World Pickleball Championship (WPC) Series from November 12-17, 2024.
• The event, organized by the All India Pickleball Association (AIPA), will feature 650 players from 6-7 countries including Australia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Poland, and Singapore.

Union Cabinet Approves Development of NMHC in Lothal.

• The Union Cabinet approved the development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) in Lothal, Gujarat, in two phases.
• Phase 1A, with 60% progress, will be completed by 2025 and includes a maritime museum with 6 galleries and naval artefacts.
• The NMHC aims to showcase India's 4,500-year-old maritime heritage, boosting tourism and benefiting local communities.

Cabinet Approves Continuation of Fortified Rice Supply Until 2028.

• The Union Cabinet, approved the continuation of fortified rice supply under all government schemes, including PMGKAY, until December 2028.
• The initiative, funded 100% by the Government of India, aims to address anaemia and micronutrient deficiencies through rice fortification.
• Anaemia and micronutrient deficiencies remain significant health issues, as highlighted by NFHS-5.

UNFPA Honors India for Significant Progress in Maternal Health.

• UNFPA recognized India’s leadership in advancing maternal health and family planning.
• India reduced its Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) by 70% between 2000 and 2020, nearing the SDG target of MMR below 70 by 2030.
• Union Health Secretary Mrs. Punya Salila Srivastava was felicitated for her role in these achievements.
