Rajnath Singh approves Miniratna status to three Defence PSU.

• Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the grant of Miniratna status Category-I for Munitions India Limited (MIL), Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) & India Optel Limited (IOL).
• All three companies were carved out of the erstwhile Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) in October 2021 as part of a structural overhaul of the sector.

Measles Vaccine Prevented "9 Crore Deaths" Worldwide.

• Measles has seen a dramatic decline in global mortality rates due to the development and scale-up of effective vaccination programs.
• Since the introduction of the measles vaccine an estimated 9 crore (90 million) deaths have been prevented worldwide.
• John Enders developed the first effective measles vaccine in 1963, from the ‘Edmonston-B’ strain.

Sri Lanka: International Tourist footfall crosses one million mark.

• Sri Lanka has crossed the one million mark in international tourist arrivals this year, nearly a month earlier than last year, signalling a strong post-pandemic recovery.
• Provisional data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) showed 1,006,097 visitors recorded between January 1 and May 25.
• The last time the one million mark was achieved in May 2018.

Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan launches to strengthen "Lab to Land".

• Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan from Sakhigopal in Puri district, Odisha.
• The campaign promotes two-way communication between scientists and farmers.
• The initiative will involve experts from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Krishi Vigyan Kendras to strengthen the Lab to Land connection.

MHA: Honorary promotion of one rank for retiring CAPFs & AR personnel.

• The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to confer an honorary rank on personnel below officer rank in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles (AR).
• The honorary rank is one rank higher which will be conferred on the day of their retirement.
• The decision aims to boost the self-respect, pride, and morale of personnel retiring from the rank of Constable to Sub-Inspector.
