1. FM Nirmala Sitharaman launches the Union Budget Mobile App as India gears up for first paperless budget

  • The government has launched the app for all Budget 2021-related documents that will be made available after the Finance Minister's speech on February 1.
  • The app will provide easy and hassle-free access to all Budget 2021-related information and documents to key stakeholders, MPs, media, and the
  • The launch took place along with the customary 'halwa' ceremony that commences the "final stage" of Union Budget 2021-22.


2. DRDO’s successful flight test of Smart Anti Airfield Weapon

  • DRDO has successfully conducted captive and release trial of indigenously developed Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW) from Hawk-i of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) off the Odisha coast 
  • The smart weapon was successfully test fired from Indian Hawk-Mk132 of HAL.This was the 9th successful mission of SAAW conducted by DRDO till now
  • This is 125 Kg class smart weapon, capable of engaging ground enemy airfield assets such as radars,bunkers, taxi tracks, and runways etc. up to a range of 100 kms

3. GPS, Panic button mandatory in public passenger vehicles in Chhattisgarh

  • GPS and panic buttons will be installed in all public passenger vehicles for the safety of women passengers
  • A tracking device and command center will be set up to monitor the vehicles
  • The implementation of the scheme will cost around Rs. 15 crore. 60 percent of this expenditure will be borne by the Central Government and 40 percent by the State Government 
  • The command center will also get information about the closure of GPS in vehicles.

     

4. National Girl Child Day-24 january: Haridwar teen Shrishti Goswami to become Uttarakhand CM for one day

  • The 19-year-old will take part in the child assembly session in Dehradun
  • As part of her duties as CM, Goswami will review the schemes, including Atal Ayushman Scheme, Smart City project, Homestay Scheme by the tourism department, and other development projects, run by the state government. She will administer from Gairsain, Uttarakhand’s summer capital

5. SAIL planning to set up India's first gas-to-ethanol plant in Chandrapur

  • SAIL with the help of the Centre is planning to set up India's first gas to ethanol plant at its ferro alloy plant in Chandrapur in Maharashtra
  • The plan is in line with the government''s aim to reduce the country''s dependence on import for crude oil besides addressing the issue of carbon emissions
  • It would cost around Rs 400 crore for SAIL to set up the plant, of which 20 per cent "viable gas funding" or aid will be provided by the government under the National Policy on BioFuels 2018.
  • SRTMI is facilitating SAIL in setting up the gas-to-ethanol plant.
