1. IWAI inks pact with MOL (Asia Oceania) for transportation of LPG through Inland Waterways

  • The Inland Waterways Authority will provide support for, facilitating with adequate fairway, handling of LPG cargo on IWAI terminals or Multimodal Terminals at Haldia, Sahibganj and Varanasi.
  • MOL Group is the world’s largest gas carrier company and will invest for construction and operation of dedicated LPG barges under Make-in-India initiative.




2. Indian Economist Ligia Noronha Appointed As UN's Assistant Secretary-General

  • Noronha will succeed fellow Indian and development economist Satya Tripathi for the post.
  • She has also been appointed as the head of UNEP's New York Office.




3. Sports Ministry restores recognition of Gymnastics Federation of India after 10 years

  • The GFI was de-recognised by the ministry in 2011 because of infighting in the body and since then it remained so till the ministry's order to recognise it.
  • Sports ministry grants annual recognition to National Sports Federations."It has been decided to restore the recognition of GFI with immediate effect and up to 31.12.2021,"




4. Karnataka govt launches ‘Namma Cargo’ parcel and cargo service, to be run by KSRTC

  • This cargo service will be run by the state-government owned Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and its sister companies the NWKRTC and NEKRTC in a bid to tide over the revenue loss due to the drop in passengers since the onset of the pandemic.
  • The service will cater to all southern states and also Maharashtra and Goa.



5. ISRO PSLV-C51 Launch on February 28 With Brazil's Amazonia-1 Satellite on Board

  • Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C51), which is the 53rd mission of PSLV, will launch Amazonia-1 of Brazil as primary satellite and 18 co-passenger satellites will lift off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
