Deepak Das takes charge as new Controller General of Accounts.

  • Shri Deepak Das is the 25th officer to hold the post of Controller General of Accounts (CGA).
  • He is a 1986 batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer.
  • Prior to taking charge, Shri Das served as the Principal Chief Controller of Accounts in the Central Board of Direct Taxes.

Rajya Sabha passed the Coconut Development Board (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

  • The Bill seeks to make the post of Chairman of the Coconut Development Board non-executive.
  • The number of board members has been increased from 4 to 6 as Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat will be able to nominate their representatives to the board after the amendment.
  • The bill will pave the way for the appointment of a professional person as a non-executive chairman instead of a government official.
  • The step will be beneficial to the Coconut Growers at large.
