Mathematician Nikhil Srivastava selected for the inaugural AMS's Ciprian Foias Award.

Indian-American mathematician Nikhil Srivastava has been jointly selected to inaugurate the $5,000 Cipriani Foyce Prize.
He was selected by the American Mathematical Society (AMS) for his highly original work in operator theory.
The other winners are Adam Marcus and Daniel Spielman.
The award recognizes his highly original work which introduced and developed methods for understanding characteristic polynomials of matrices.

According to the RBI data, Gujarat has overtaken Maharashtra to become the major manufacturing hub of the country.
The data shows that Gujarat grew gross value added (GVA) in the manufacturing sector by 15.9% annually to Rs 5.11 lakh crore between FY 2012 and FY 2020.
GVA is an economic metric that measures the supply of goods and services in an economy.

IIT Madras launched a global energy consortium to promote change towards a low carbon future.
The institute believes that the next generation energy challenges require a multi-domain interdisciplinary approach and strong collaboration between academia and industry, which is the main focus of this initiative.
More than 50 global faculty will work in areas such as carbon capture and storage, gas hydrates and renewable energy systems.
The consortium will be launched at the IIT Madras Energy Summit to be held from December 14 to 16.
These initiatives will form the core of the Global Energy Consortium.
