Indonesia passes a bill to move its capital from Jakarta to Nusantara.

  • Indonesia's parliament has approved a bill to change the Indonesian capital from Jakarta to Nusantara.
  • The new capital, Nusantara, is located on the island of Borneo within the mineral-rich forest of East Kalimantan.
  • Jakarta will remain the commercial and financial center while government administrative functions will move to East Kalimantan.
  • The project to develop the new capital city Nusantara (the archipelago in Javanese) will be taken up in five phases and the first phase is expected to start in 2022.
  • The estimated cost of the project is approximately 466 trillion rupees ($32 billion).

Scientists have named a new species of rainfrog after Greta Thunberg.

  • A new species of rain frog discovered in the Panama forest is named after Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg.
  • This species has been named Pristimantis Gretthunberge, or popularly known as Greta Thunberg Rainfrog.
  • The frog was originally discovered in 2012 and was previously thought to be part of the classified Pristimantis family.
  • However, recent DNA analysis has confirmed that the frog is a new species, according to the scientific journal ZooKeys.
  • It was named after Greta Thunberg when conservation non-profit The Rainforest Trust held an auction that allowed the winner to name the new species.
  • The frog was discovered in a reserve established by the conservation organization Adoptabosk with the support of the Rainforest Trust.



Government merges the eternal flame of Amar Jawan Jyoti with National War Memorial flame.
