India partners with Israel to transform 150 villages into "Villages of Excellence".

  • To help farmers adopt the latest technology in agriculture, the Government of India has joined hands with the Government of Israel to create 150 Villages of Excellence in 12 states of the country.
  • Israel will provide technical support and other expertise to make agriculture a more profitable business.
  • The initiative will be undertaken in a phased manner.
  • 75 out of 150 villages will be taken up in 2022. The rest of the villages will be taken up later.



SPMCIL sets up new bank note printing lines at Nashik and Dewas.

  • Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL) has set up New Bank Note Printing Line at its Currency Note Press, Nashik and Bank Note Press, Dewas.
  • SPMCIL is a Miniratna company owned by the Government of India and is engaged in the manufacture/production of currency and banknotes, security paper.
  • In India, we have four printing presses for printing and supplying notes.
  • These are Dewas in Madhya Pradesh, Nashik in Maharashtra (owned by SPMCIL), Mysore in Karnataka, and Salboni in West Bengal (owned by Reserve Bank of India Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL)).



Book titled "A Little Book of India" authored by Ruskin Bond launched.

  • The book titled A Little Book of India: Celebrating 75 Years of Independence authored by Ruskin Bond was launched on January 24, 2022.
  • Ruskin Bond's 1st novel is The Room on the Roof.
  • The book is a blend of the material and spiritual characteristics of India and also throws light on India's progress as a nation over the past 75 years.
  • It is published by Penguin Random House India (PRHI).
  • It is a record of some of my memories and impressions of this unique land - of its rivers and forests, of literature and culture, of sights, sounds and colors - an amalgamation of the physical and the spiritual.



World’s-largest canal lock unveiled in Netherlands.

  • The world's largest canal lock has been inaugurated in Ijmuiden, a small port town in the Amsterdam port of Netherlands.
  • The sea locks were inaugurated by the Dutch king Vilain-Alexander.
  • The Izmuiden Sea Lock is 500 meters (1,640 ft) long and 70 meters wide.
  • Construction on the massive infrastructure project began in 2016 and was to be done by 2019.
  • This exceeded the initially planned budget by about €300 million ($338 million).



Om Birla launches "Digital Sansad App" to make live proceedings accessible to citizens.

  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on January 27, 2022 launched the official mobile application of Parliament named Digital Sansad App to allow citizens to access live proceedings of the House including the Union Budget 2022.
  • The app will make Parliament and parliamentary proceedings accessible not only to the members but also to the people of the country.
  • Through the Digital Parliament App, citizens can see what their Members of Parliament are doing, what debates they are participating in and what they are saying.
  • Using the app, MPs can also register their attendance digitally.
